The Three R's - Rebooting, Recyling and Remaking
WTF!
Who thought Arlene would be better off Strictly than on?
Sugababes version 4, discuss?
The BBC remaking Jane Austen's Emma - AGAIN! Although, I'll gladly admit I have only persevered with Emma because of Johnny Lee Miller (the new Colin Firth?) and cos there's nothing else on.
I can see through Lady Gaga/Madonna-lite even if the rest of the world can't?
Anyhoo, what really started me on the slow burn to infuriation was Tron - is it really necessary to reboot it? I saw this film before I even knew what Star Wars was, I can trace my love for all things computer, cult and sci fi back to this exact film. Are Disney hedging they're bets with a new Disney Princess on the horizon? Does the appearance of Jeff Bridges mean that he's given it movie approval?
So I'm all of a tizzy, just because of four reimagined films - Tron, Alice in Wonderland, Footloose, and Karate Kid.
PS: Grrrr...there are no Hidden Mickeys in this trailer.

Sit down, you're rocking the boat
I've been reading The Guardian on a Saturday for a while now, and with my cherished Saturdays off work lost for the foreseeable future, I look forward to my weekly read more than ever now. My Saturday morning read of it's supplement ("Weekend") contains an all too short editorial that Jess Cartner Morley and Alex Petrides write on making menswear/womenswear trends accessible.
Their wander in the fashion gender divide is so subtle, yet it often make me laugh and on the odd occasion inspires me. Especially Alex on the menswear side, who always looks like the trend is wearing him rather than the other way around. However after the newspapers published pictures of the 'rocking the boat' pendant attached to Hazel Blears, all these MP's jumping ship, duck houses, all the photos of the rich and famous in the South of France and me standing at the edge of a plank jobwise set me into a deep, dank French Navy mood I took a moment to note how all these themes all seemed to have been designed by some highly paid colour and trend prediction agency, but yet have developed a life of their own.
I'm really not fussed by this move into the blogosphere for the editorial, however it's slightly unfocussed in the pieces she's highlighting bearing in mind who its audience might potentially be. I really was distressed at the Hilfiger jacket - it offends me with it's charity shop lariness. And I will gloss over the fit of the pockets of her 7/8ths, along with the colour of her toenails.
Mood status - is it possible a Londoner could be in a New York State of mind?

A new hope

I bought this new universal special zipper foot from Prym, it looks like a outcast from a Lego Star Wars set. The wedding dress is almost finished, bar the straps, the zip, and the diamontees. For the design, the ivory silk habotai G (the bride) bought was too lightweight and crisp for the design, and the lining fabric was such a disaster on my machine that I'm so pleased that I've got to the end, but I'm not sure that I love it.

Project 2 - Pink baby bootays x 2

These are the baby bootays (sorry, slippers) I'm making for Michelle from Bought Ledger's baby using Debbie Bliss Baby Cashmerino DK. I overthought the colour and I'm making two pairs once I knew she was having a girl. My workmate, Emma's got the best end of the deal, she's making the cardi. She decided she wanted to make it in white, so we went to Liberty's and bought two sets of buttons in the colours of the slippers and are going to alternate them down the front to make them co-ordinate. I'm not looking forward to the making up process - I'm great with fabric, not much practice or patience with knits, especially baby sized ones.

The more it SNOWS - tiddely-pom...

I know it's off topic, and you may call me mental, but I love it when it snows. I blame it on bed time stories of Pooh and Piglet's attempts at Woozle hunting. Childish? Yes, but it still has the power to make me cry with laughter. It's usually the post-snowfall icy conditions I hate. In London we usually don't have the snow drifts of other areas of the UK, and although the damage is fleeting and often unprepared for. I love it especially when it's powdery...there's something peaceful and all conquering about it. This new blanket of snow is fresh, powdery and unmarkable like a new Mac eyeshadow - the damage for me, will come when it thaws. Well that...and the fact Christopher Robin was watching the whole time and could have stopped them at any time.

Project Runaway
So the idea was 2009 (what!) - get creative, get blogging, start combining all the fashion related things I love doing.
Project 1 - (technically it should have a 2008 label on) G's civil wedding dress - 1st draft toile photo to be uploaded soon.
Project 2 - Michelle from Bought Ledger's baby bootays. (again photos to come).
Project 3 - Mum's Birthday present, which I've definitely decided will be handmade. Unless of course I change my mind. Again.
Project 4 - My room - key features: yellow, dark wood, Oriental, Chinoiserie - this, I think, is going to be major, but I can't start this until I've done the groundwork. Trust me, I've just spent a 6 months trying to decide what colour the walls should be.
Project 5 - sew the buttons back onto that blasted carmine coat of mine. You buy a coat for over £60 from H&M, you should at least expect ALL the buttons to stay on longer than a week.
